Bekisz
Melissa E. Bekisz is a solo practitioner based in New York City and Greenport, New York. The Greenport office was opened in 2020, and she expanded to New York City in 2024.
Melissa was inspired to go to law school after experiencing her own family tragedy, that was compounded by a lack of estate planning. After the loss of several close family members, she witnessed her mother and grandmother work with lawyers for years to resolve family financial matters that became more complicated due to the lack of estate planning. She hopes to make things easier for other families through her work.
Melissa’s practice focuses law that impacts the average person. This includes trust and estates (planning and administration), estate litigation, corporate and small business law, real estate law and litigation, and mediation. She utilizes a holistic approach to create one process to plan ahead for both your family and your business.
Melissa was the youngest elected female judge in New York State – she was elected as the Village Justice of Stewart Manor, New York in 2017 and served a four year term ending in 2021. She feels incredibly lucky to have been able to serve in this position in the Village where she grew up.
Prior to opening her own practice, Melissa was the managing attorney at a mid-sized firm in Nassau where she oversaw the litigation and compliance departments and practiced real estate litigation and bankruptcy law throughout New York City and Long Island. Previously, Melissa worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, where she focused on regulatory compliance matters for large banks and national insurers. She successfully managed projects with multi-million dollar budgets, and oversaw 90+ staff members.
Melissa is licensed to practice law in New York State, and in federal court, in the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Melissa graduated St. John's Law in 2013, and Manhattan University (previously Manhattan College) in 2010. Melissa volunteers as a career mentor with Manhattan University, and is on the Alumni Leadership Council at St. John’s Law.
